A delegation of the Kuwaiti Navy on Tuesday inspected Egyptian naval units that have recently joined the Egyptian fleet in the coastal city of Alexandria, spokesperson of the Egyptian Armed Forces Colonel Gharib Abdel-Hafez Gharib said in a press release, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

The Kuwaiti delegation also examined the cadets’ facilities at the Naval Academy in Alexandria, he said, adding that the Kuwaiti personnel headed by Commander of the Kuwaiti Navy Commodore Hazzaa Al-Alati met with the Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Vice Admiral Ashraf Atwa Megahed.

The Kuwaiti military delegation also examined the Arsenal of Alexandria and the shipyard, he said, noting that the visit is in line with the efforts to bolster cooperation and exchange expertise between the Kuwaiti and Egyptian Navies.

In a recent development, the MEKO-A200 frigate “Al-Qadeer” arrived at the Alexandria Naval Base last week to join the Egyptian Navy fleet after completing the handing over procedures in the German city of Bremerhaven.

MEKO-A200 was built by the German company thyssenkrupp Marine Sytstems (TKMS) according to the latest global systems in armament systems and combat efficiency.

A large number of naval vessels and helicopters participated in a naval parade off the coast of Alexandria to celebrate the reception of the frigate, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The frigate “Al-Qadeer” represents a technological addition and enormous combat capabilities to the Navy, as it possesses many technical features and advanced armament systems that enable it to carry out all combat missions efficiently and effectively, which supports the Navy’s combat capabilities in order to achieve the ability to confront challenges and risks and to have complete control over our coasts extending in the Red and Mediterranean Seas.

Vice Admiral Ashraf Atwa, Commander of the Egyptian Navy, delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, to the crew of the frigate.

He also praised their ability to achieve the highest levels of excellence in mastering the modern combat and technological system of the frigate during the preparation period.

The reception ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Northern Military Zone, a number of Navy Commanders, a number of cadets from the Naval Academy, and a number of schools and university students.
